2010 Cadillac SRX: A new look that draws attention

Cadillac-SRX

The names not new but the 2010 SRX has made car aficionados and Cadillac fans sit up and take notice. Officially classified as a crossover vehicle, it was first introduced in 2003 as a station wagon. The new SRX is not a reworked station wagon, it is all new, totally disregarding the first-generation's tall wagon styling in favor of the crossover SUV‘s fresh look and innovative design both inside and out.

Joe and I were immediately impressed when met the 2010 SRX. The mid-size SUV/crossover is engaging at first blush, thanks to a face lift by the designers giving an upgraded version of the Cadillac marquee toothy grill. Vertical headlights that swivel to follow the road, mini-fin tail lights with night time-defining accent light pipes, and the various creases and folds that are other Caddy defining ques.

As we drove around South Florida in the 2010 SRX we got lot of looks and lots of inquires. The number one question we heard over and over, even with its Cadillac badges was “That’s a Cadillac?” It certainly draws attention.

Like all crossovers, the Cadillac SRX utilizes components and construction more often associated with cars than trucks like its Escalade brand mate. The result is a more comfortable ride and better handling.

New to the SRX is a direct injection V6 engine designed for efficiency or a turbo V6 designed for power. Each is mated to six speed automatic transmissions. The base engine is an all-aluminum direct injection 3.0-liter V6 pushing 260 HP. The upgraded engine is actually smaller by displacement at 2.8 liters but thanks to the turbo it throws down 300 HP.

We mentioned, both of those engines get hooked up to a six-speed transmission and that power gets routed through standard front wheel drive and an optional all wheel drive.

Inside, the SRX delivers on Cadillac’s tradition of comfort and luxury. You start with a set of leather seats front and rear which are pleasing for both the short and long rides. The console is covered in hand-cut and sewn leather. The gauge cluster sits in a leather wrapped hood. Bounties of gadgets are found in the SRX. Bluetooth comes standard with every car, with OnStar turn-by-turn directions optional as well as a pop-up screen at the top of the center console. The radio has the same cool feature as the current generation CTS, equipped with an optional hard drive system allowing you to rewind and fast forward like the audio version of a TiVo. The rear hatch gets a programmable power lift gate.

Cadillac has definite following here in South Florida. From the Escalade that cruise South Beach, the CTS V that gets the blood pumping in race fans and DTS four doors models that populate restaurants during early bird specials Caddy’s are popular. If the comments the SRX generated as we drove around to malls, to business meetings, golf courses and grocery stores are any indication this will be a popular ride.
